The London Chef

Address: 953 Fort St.
Phone: (250) 590-1865
Website: http://thelondonchef.com/
Price: varies
Notes: Take-away lunches & cooking classes at lunch or dinner

The London Chef kitchen looks like something out of a magazine - large, luxurious countertops and gleaming stainless-steel appliances call to me like the mothership calling me home. Like many people, I suffer the delusion that if I just had a bigger, fancier kitchen I would be a far better cook. The reason for the beautiful space is to achieve exactly this (without the fancy kitchen at home). The London Chef offers lessons to help you take your cooking to the next level. There are two choices for lessons: "Lunch & Learn" and private group lessons for dinner times. Fellow local food blogger Scrimp or Splurge has a fabulous guest post with information about the lunch & learns.

The London Chef also joins the "reasonably priced fine dining at lunch" scene. The few times I've walked by, the menu has varied quite a bit from simple soups, salad and sandwiches to seafood risotto. They also have quite a few additions to your dinner such as Stage sausages and house-made sauces and fancy vinegars and so on.   While the main space isn't used for the lunch sales, there is a small side room with a fridge, warmer and a till to purchase your food. A few tables extend into the lobby of the building with a lovely selection of cook books for lunch-time reading.

The service for the lunch is pretty basic - order at the till, take it to your seat or take it out. It was friendly and most importantly if you're on a tight lunch time, quick!

Butternut Squash Bisque via foodspotting.com

This soup would have made my late grandmother very happy, as it was quite hot! Butternut squash soup is one of my favourites, and I was walking by on a muggy, rainy day and thought "soup - just the thing!"  I assume bisque means creamy, but I did not find it to be too much, which I appreciate! It had a nice flavour indeed - and if memory serves, I could taste some nice parmesan (although admittedly it has been far too long between the eating and the writing of this review).
